RootsTech London – I know some people will be upset with me for saying this, but I was really disturbed to see that only 3 of the 13 featured speakers for the upcoming London RootsTech are female. There’s time for this to be rectified and I certainly hope they do.
P.S. Please bear in mind that genealogy skews female – about 72-77%. And that makes this all the more perplexing.
Hogan: Genealogy is gendered – “Despite the preponderance of women in the industry, only 55 percent of conference speakers are women. Hogan attended 15 genealogy conferences while conducting research for her book, and all but one of the keynote speakers were men.”
15:1?! Used to do lots of keynotes. Is our field going backward?
About 15 years ago I heard you and Cindi (of Cindi’s Lists) and you as key note speakers at Indianapolis. Still remember a lot of both talks.
I’ve been a key note speaker about 5 or 6 times, I’ve never had any bad reviews, however, all of them have been local events. I agree with you, I am also disturbed, seems like you are correct in your assessment.
